NTPC Vindhyachal Continues to Set New Benchmarks in Power Generation

Singrauli, Vindhyachal Project Head Sanjeeb Kumar Saha Interacts with Media Representatives

Singrauli: NTPC’s Vindhyachal Project stands as Asia’s largest and the world’s eighth-largest power generation facility, boasting a current installed capacity of 4783 MW, generated through a mix of coal, solar, and hydro sources. The Vindhyachal Project is firmly committed to the welfare of displaced persons and environmental conservation. These sentiments were expressed by Sanjeeb Kumar Saha, Head of the Vindhyachal Project. The Project Head was interacting with media representatives at Umang Bhawan. Mr. Saha stated that the Vindhyachal Project is consistently setting new records in power generation. He noted that it is precisely due to these achievements that Vindhyachal has garnered awards across various sectors. Mr. Saha further remarked that the media serves as the fourth pillar of democracy and should extend its cooperation regarding the development of the project. Responding to questions from media representatives regarding challenges faced in the current scenario, the Project Head confirmed that they are receiving a satisfactory supply of coal from NCL projects. Furthermore, the Project Head refuted claims that a diesel shortage was impacting coal supplies from mining projects via the MGR (Merry-Go-Round) system. Regarding the suggestion to electrify the CHP (Coal Handling Plant), the Project Head expressed agreement, assuring the media that he would apprise the senior management of this proposal.

Addressing the utilization and utility of the ash generated by the plant, the Project Head stated that the Vindhyachal Project is committed to achieving 100% utilization of the fly ash produced. To this end, efforts are being undertaken at various levels to ensure the effective utilization of fly ash. Discussing NTPC Vindhyachal’s initiatives for environmental conservation—specifically the Carbon Capture Plant—the Project Head explained that the facility was established at Vindhyachal by NTPC as a significant step towards achieving a zero carbon footprint. Through this system, harmful carbon monoxide gas emitted from the plant is absorbed, preventing its release into the atmosphere; furthermore, its by-product—ethanol—is utilized within the project itself.

The Project Head expressed gratitude to the media personnel on behalf of NTPC Vindhyachal for their cooperation. Earlier in the program, the event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the Project Head, other distinguished guests, and media representatives. Subsequently, in her welcome address, Mrs. Ruma De Sharma, Head of Human Resources at Vindhyachal, extended a warm welcome to the media personnel present. She remarked that the bond between NTPC Vindhyachal and the media is exceptionally strong, and that the project management gives due consideration to suggestions offered by the media, striving to implement them effectively.
